Budding Love

While I was taking a walk via the canal, I noticed what looked like a surfing board in front of a boat. I couldn't resist teasing the boat owner. I asked him if he was going surfing. He laughed and said it was inside his boat and he'd thrown it out. He suggested I could have it if I fancied surfing on the river.

I stopped to have a chat with my new friend.

He told me he'd recently acquired his boat (his first ever) which needs a lot of work inside and out. He said someone tried to steal his engine last night but they couldn't get access to it as it was locked up.

He invited me to have a look inside his boat. I stood on the doorway and looked in. It was quite deep inside but it was full of junk. I told him he really had his work cut out. He didn't even have electricity, he can only work on the boat when it's light.

It was going to be his project for the next few months. He was aiming for it to be finished before the summer so he could travel up north.

He said so far he's spent one night in his boat and he found it very blissful.

I patted his boat and asked him if he had a name for it. He intended to call it Psalm. I suggested he call it Psalm 91 as it's the Psalm of Protection. I said his boat will always be protected.

I asked my friend how long he was moored at that spot. He said boat owners are only allowed to moor for 2 weeks at a time and then you have to move somewhere but he's been at that spot longer because his boat was leaking which he had to fix. He said an Enforcer comes round every day to ensure boat owners have the appropriate licence and regulates their stay.

I'm so happy my friend has a new love who gives him so much joy. I love that even though he knows his new love needs a lot of attention, he's not scared of the task as he knows the rewards will be worth it. Good luck to both of them!

Even if my friend never calls his new new love "Psalm 91", to me, his boat will always be protected by Love.
